Gates Millennium Scholars Program

This program is funded by a grant from Bill and Melinda Gates, this scholarship is available to African-American, American-Indian/Alaska Native, Asian Pacific Islander-American, or Hispanic American students who have a minimum GPA of 3.30 and have demonstrated leadership abilities through participation in community service, extracurricular or other activities, and meet Federal Pell eligibility criteria.  This is a highly competitive process and students are encouraged to submit their nomination packet as early as possible.  Information can be found here.  Deadline is in January.

Sam Walton Community Scholarship Program

Wal-Mart Corporation sponsors this program that awards two $1,000 scholarships from each Wal-Mart or Sam’s Club.  Recipients also are eligible to compete for scholarships up to a total value of $25,000.  Selection is based upon financial need, academic record, ACT scores, community/extracurricular involvement, and work experience.  Information regarding student eligibility and application requirements can be found here.  The access code (SWCS) must be used to access this application process.  Check in November to apply.

Burger King Scholar

High school seniors, Burger King employees, their dependent children, spouses or domestic partners in the U.S., Canada and Puerto Rico can apply to receive up to $50,000 in scholarship awards. High school seniors must have a cumulative GPA of 2.5 on a 4.0 scales to be eligible. Apply here.  This scholarship has an December deadline.

SAE Engineering Scholarship Program

This annual scholarship is provided by BMW AG in recognition of its commitment to excellence in engineering.  BMW is world famous for designing and building luxury, high-performance passenger cars and motorcycles.  The company is also a leader in developing and manufacturing high technology, high performance internal combustion engines.  The scholarship is in support of the SAE Foundation to ensure an adequate supply of well-trained engineers for the future.  Eligible students must be a U.S. resident, have a 3.75 or better grade point average on a 4.0 scale (required), rank in the 90th percentile in both math and critical reading on SAT or composite ACT scores, pursue an engineering or related science degree through an ABET accredited program.  Apply here.  This scholarship has a January deadline.

Ron Brown Scholar Program

This national program awards scholarships to academically talented, highly motivated African-American students.  The scholarships are worth $10,000 annually for up to $40,000.  Applicants must excel academically, show exceptional leadership potential, make an impact on their communities through service to others, and demonstrate financial need.  Apply here.  Deadline is January 9th.

Hy Vee foundation Scholarship Program

$1,000 scholarships available to high-school seniors and college students.  Applicant must be a high-school senior working for Hy-Vee or subsidiary who began employment on or before September 15th or a high school senior son and/or daughter of a full-, regular-, or part-time Hy Vee or subsidary employee who has a minimum of six months employment as of September 15, and applicant must be enrolling in college for the first time.  Apply here.
