Welcome Class of 2021!

Important Freshman Testing Night Information:

Freshman testing night is Wednesday, May 3, 2017, from 4:00 to 9:00 pm. You are able to schedule your appointments around your schedule at the link at the bottom.  Students are not expected to be here for the entire evening. Parking is free and open for parents on the south side of the building. All entrances will be unlocked. All meetings and testing will occur on the 2nd floor. Boosters will be in the lounge/cafeteria with spirit wear and refreshments. Members of student senate will be posted around the building to help you if you need assistance. If you are unable to attend, please send an email to our registrar, Kelly Whiting, at klwhiti@ilstu.edu.

What to sign up for:

Course Registration Session – offered every hour (4:00 pm, 5:00 pm, 6:00 pm, 7:00 pm and 8:00 pm. Parent(s) and student(s) should attend this session together. Freshman elective course options will be covered along with a presentation from the Freshman Program. This session lasts approximately 60 minutes and will be held in the U-High library on the 2nd floor across from the main office.

Math Placement Test – Offered at 4:00 pm, 5:30 pm and 7:00 pm. All incoming freshmen are required to complete the math placement test. It will be take on a computer and students will be provided with all necessary materials (pencils, scratch paper, calculators, etc.). This test take approximately 75-90 minutes to complete. Students should report to Room 208 or 216 for testing.

Literacy Testing – Offered every 20 minutes starting at 4:00 pm. All incoming freshmen are required to take a literacy assessment. The test takes approx. 20 minutes to complete and students should check in for testing outside the main office.

Foreign Language Placement Test (Optional) – Offered every hour (4:00 pm, 5:00 pm, 6:00 pm and 7:00 pm. This is an optional exam for students who have completed French or Spanish courses previously and want start with a level 2 high school language course during the 2017-2018 school year. This exam is on paper and students are not required to bring any materials. Students typically need 45-60 minutes to complete this assessment. Students should check in with a U-High representative outside Room 222 for Spanish or Room 219 for French.

Please use the link below to sign up for the appropriate testing. You can schedule your testing so that it works with your schedule that evening. Testing does not need to occur in any particular order and students can complete testing before or after the course registration session. Get your spirit wear at Testing Night! Boosters will have merchandise available for purchase. Spiritwear and refreshments provided by the U-High Boosters will be available in the lounge/cafeteria area outside Stroud Auditorium. This is also a good opportunity to meet other parents and learn more about U-High Boosters.

Moe’s Fundraiser for U-High Track, April 27

Please come help support U-High Track and RUN INTO MOE’S on Thursday, April 27th. This fundraiser is for both of the Moe’s locations, and Track will get 20% of all sales with a flyer, or if you mention U-High. Sales count from 11:00 am to 9:00 pm. So, jog, sprint or jump over hurdles into Moe’s on April 27th but don’t miss it!

Latin America Trip Meeting, April 26

We are excited to announce that we will be leading a group of students on a once‐in‐a‐lifetime educational tour, “Nicaragua and Costa Rica,” departing March 8, 2018. We’ll explore famous historic sites, discover the rich heritage and diversity of different cultures, and experience the places we’ve studied in class. Students will grow and mature as individuals and return home with a whole new worldview.

We’ve chosen to travel with Explorica because of their exceptional safety record, their supportive service and their glowing reviews from other teachers in our community who travel with them. Explorica programs offer the perfect mixture of fun and learning, and they provide everything we need.

U-High Speech and Debate Team Trivia Night! May 5! Sign up now!

What: 2nd Annual UHigh Speech and Debate Team Trivia Night and Silent Auction
When: Friday, May 5, 7:00PM
Where: University High School Large Gym
Why: The U-High Speech and Debate Team qualified a record breaking 16 students to the NSDA National Tournament in June. The trip to Birmingham, AL is expensive when you have that many students attending. Come out for a night of trivia fun!

Teams consist of 4-6 people. $5 per student, $10 per adult!

Give your team a name and theme! Awards will be given to teams with the best table decorations and theme wear. Additional awards will be given based on merit (or lack thereof)!

We will be holding a Silent Auction and Raffles throughout the night! Cash, Check, or Credit Card will be accepted for Silent Auction items.

2017 Yearbook Senior Ads

Although it may seem as though your son or daughter just entered U-High not too long ago, graduation is right around the corner. The yearbook’s annual fundraiser offers a creative way to show how proud you are of your graduating senior by publishing a senior ad in the yearbook. These ads may include a baby picture, current picture and a message to your son or daughter.

For all ads, the picture(s) will be in color.  Included is an order form containing prices and the information sheet. Please submit all ad materials together. Unfortunately, we cannot hold an ad space or process your order until we have all of your ad materials. All ads must be postmarked no later than May 5, 2017. However, we encourage you to submit ads as soon as possible; due to limited space, we will print ads on a first come first serve basis.  The Clarion staff reserves the right to screen and edit all ads for content, appropriateness, spelling, grammar, and school policy compliance.

We need to receive the original pictures in the best condition possible. Even though your pictures will be digitally scanned into the yearbook, avoid photos that are copied or printed from “picture-makers.”  However, you may wish to send a digital picture by submitting a CD with the photo(s) saved as a JPEG. Please avoid bending the photographs, as The Clarion will not be able to guarantee the final ad’s quality.  Please put your name and phone number on the back of each photo in pencil.

Senior End of the Year Information

Complete end of the year information is being emailed to all senior families. An end of the year calendar is available to help keep track of all the senior events that happen the last few weeks of school.

As per tradition, there will be a class picture available for purchase along with cap and gown pictures. The two order forms are being emailed to families and are available below:

Summer School 2017, Classes are Filling Up Fast

Summer school 2017 will begin June 5, 2017 and end July 7, 2017. Classes are $200 per class. Complete details are available in the summer school brochure. Registration for U-High students will not begin until April 24. Registration for all other students will begin May 1.

Updated 04/24/2017: Oral Comm, Sophomore Writing and Government classes are now full. Other classes are still available.

Summer Driver’s Education

Summer Driver’s Education (available to current U-High students only) will take place June 5th – 29th.  The classroom portion of the class will meet Monday through Thursday from 1-3pm in Room 218.  The Behind-the-Wheel (BTW) portion will take place throughout the day; the schedule will be determined at a later date. We will accommodate students to the best of our ability when scheduling BTW.

The cost of the class is $250 and must be paid prior to our first meeting on June 5th.
