U-High hosted the 51st annual Cogdal Relays on Saturday at Horton Field House. The Pioneers claimed a number of first place finishes throughout the day. Ally Shepherd was the 1,000 meter champion in 3:15.04, breaking her own meet record. Myles Aldridge won both the long jump and the triple jump events. Dane Alexander won the 1600 in 4:52.32. U-High relay teams also claimed victories in the 1600 and the 3200. Congratulations on a success meet, Pioneers!

The Pantagraph recently released their selections for the all-area boys basketball team. Among the first team picks was senior Keondre Schumacher. Earning honorable mentions were senior Jack Martin and sophomore Kai Bates-Diop. Congratulations guys!

Congratulations to the U-High baseball team on their 5-3 nonconference victory over Tremont on Wednesday! Billy Mote and Ryan Poland had two hits each. Own Martin pitched five innings and earned the win as pitcher. The team is now 3-1. Way to go Pioneers!

The U-High WYSE team earned first place at the U of I sectional tournament earning medals in the following subject areas: Biology: 1st – Calis Lim, 2nd – Advika Kamatar, Alex Keene; Chemistry: 1st – Rohan Kamatar, 2nd – Alena Culbertson; Computer Science: 1st – Alok Kamatar, 2nd – Charlie Cutting, 3rd – Mathew Suh; Engineering Graphics: 2nd – Henry Wissmiller, 3rd – Jared Schuckman; English: 1st – Alena Culbertson, 2nd – Advika Kamatar; and Math: 1st – Alok Kamatar. Senior Raven Hughes has been named this year’s Pantagraph Area Player of the Year! She averaged 15.5 points and carried the Pioneers to a 28-5 record and as high as No. 4 in the state poll. Her contributions helped the team win Intercity, the Corn Belt Conference title and the Class 3A Regional title. She finished the season with 1,279 career points. Raven will continue her education after U-High at Illinois Wesleyan University in Bloomington. Congratulations Raven!

U-High science teacher Maggy Proctor and her husband, Neal, welcomed a new baby girl to their family this past week. Adalyn Ann Proctor was born on Monday, February 13, 2017 at 4:31 pm. She weighed 8 lbs, 6 oz and measured 21 inches long. Congratulations!

The Associated Press recently released their all-state team picks for basketball. U-High’s Keondre Schumacher was an all-state second team pick in class 3A. He averaged 17.3 points and 3.6 assists per game. Congratulations Keondre!

The U-High baseball team defeated Knoxvill (Tenn.) Powell 10-6 at Kissimmee, Florida. Jake Armstrong earned the win as pitcher. They finish their Florida trip with a 2-1 record. Congratulations guys!

The U-High baseball team earned their first win of the season on Wednesday. They beat St. Paul (Pa.) 13-1. Ryan Poland had two hits while Beau Hendren, Billy Mote and John Gibson contributed one hit each. Pitching duties were shared by Chris Cuppini and Jack Feely. Congrats Pioneers!
