Darcy Drexler, ’77, spreads love of violin far & wide
Darcy Drexler is beginning her 22nd year as Director of the String Academy of Wisconsin. She also leads the Master of Music in String Pedagogy degree program at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. Former violin students are now teaching and performing in symphony orchestras throughout the United States.
Last May, Ms. Drexler presented at the 2018 American String Teachers Association national conference in Atlanta, Georgia. And, in recent years, she has taught masterclasses and given violin teacher training workshops throughout the U.S., Brazil and China.
Each summer, Ms. Drexler directs the SAW/UWM "Teaching the Violin to Children" workshop. This past July, participants from the U.S., Canada and Germany attended the 4-day event.
Dr. Bob Fitzgerald, '92, partners with Ali Center
Since returning from his Fulbright in London, U-High Social Science teacher and class of 1992 graduate Dr. Bob Fitzgerald has partnered with the Muhammad Ali Center in Louisville, Kentucky where he is brought in by the Educational Services Department to provide professional development to teachers from Jefferson County Public Schools.
This fall marks his third trip to the Center where he will attend the annual Muhammad Ali Humanitarian Awards Dinner and work with teachers again on how they can use the Six Core Principals outlined by Muhammad Ali during his life in their classrooms.
