Study Abroad in Japan

Have you ever thought about studying abroad? The Bloomington-Normal Sister Cities Committee is offering the opportunity for one high school student to live and study for 10 months in our sister city, Asahikawa, Japan. The selected student will receive Japanese language tutoring and culture training before departure. This scholarship includes transportation to and from Japan, cost of living, high school tuition and fees, and a monthly stipend. The student will depart in August 2019* and return in June 2020.

If selected you will:

  • Attend a Japanese high school
  • Live with host families
  • Learn the Japanese language and culture
  • Form friendships that will last a lifetime

To be eligible, you must be entering high school as a sophomore, junior or senior in August 2019 and must live in Unit 5 or District 87 school districts.
